Senbazuru: The task of folding one thousand paper cranes

1000 paper cranes decorated our reception. Japanese tradition holds that the bride who finishes the task of folding one thousand origami paper cranes, called senbazuru, before her wedding day will be richly rewarded with a good and happy marriage.

Cranes mate for life, are said to live one thousand years and are a sacred bird in Japan.

Senbazuru are also thought to grant wishes to the maker and in recent years have come to symbolize world peace.

We loved the idea of creating something together that was a labor of love and we folded the 1,000 cranes in the months before our wedding. It is our wish that all of you be blessed with a long life of health, happiness and peace.
